The Winter Season
The winter season. To some, the cold brings lifeless cold and unpleasantness that life must contend with. To others, the arrival of colder temperatures and snow signals the start of a new year, the embrace of another seasonal way of life. Finding myself in the latter group, I long for winter every month of the year. Nothing seems more romantic to me than falling snowflakes and frozen fingertips. As for photography, snow is an instant turn on to make any “normal” scene a winter wonderland. Regularly encountered scenes in the world become places of pensive contrast and opposites when given a snow blanket. I spend much of my time visualizing photographs with stark contrast coming in two forms- light and shadows, snow and bare… This collection serves to demonstrate the power a simple white snowflake has on making the ordinary, a little more magical.
