U.S. Route 66
The Mother Road. Route 66. U.S. Highway 66… This road goes by many names but none can be forgotten. Deeply woven into the fabric of American culture, this road is home to innumerable landmarks, trading posts, and historical attractions that gave the arid west its charming and welcoming character. The creativity and diversity of the landmarks along this single roadway are astounding, with some being kept up even today- despite the Route’s official closure in 1985.
Here in Arizona, we are no stranger to goofy roadside attractions- and the fun stops along Route 66 (now Interstate 40, mostly) are truly extraordinary.
