Avery, Idaho
This series of photos were captured across three different visits to Avery Idaho in 2019, 2021, and 2023. Avery is a tiny town nestled in the middle of the Idaho Panhandle, between St. Maries and Wallace Idaho- and St. Regis Montana on the east descent of St. Paul Pass. Despite its small size- this town basks in its historical importance with relation to the logging and railroad industries, prime hunting territory, and wildland firefighting that have taken hold around in the area. This embrace of a diverse and storied past is what first drew to me to this seemingly unremarkable place within Northern Idaho, hearing of the town in books such as The Big Burn, and various historical accounts of The Milwaukee Road- the railroad that put Avery on the map.
Below is a collection of landscapes, moments, and scenes that aim to capture the beauty and charm of Avery and its surroundings across a short span of time. Avery will forever be a small, veiled, delightful piece of the Northwest I hold in my heart.
